Genesis Owusu

With his critically acclaimed albums 'Smiling with No Teeth' (2021) and 'STRUGGLER' (2026), the Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu has made a name for himself internationally as an artist who doesn’t just mix genres, but rewrites them. His work has been honoured in Australia with awards including Album of the Year at the ARIA Awards and has received praise from media outlets such as NPR and Billboard, who have hailed him as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary alternative hip-hop and soul.For his third album 'REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE', Owusu retreated to South Wales, where producer Dann Hume had converted an old church into a studio and living space. In that isolated setting, an intense and free creative process emerged in which anything was allowed to take shape. The result is an eclectic mix of funk, neo-soul, alt-pop and synth-punk, in which genre boundaries are constantly shifting or disappearing entirely. The album reflects on political tensions, inequality and the ongoing friction between power, the media and humanity, whilst simultaneously continuing to seek connection, love and resilience.
