Misha's Mirage

Rond deze tijd van het jaar worden er in de stad festiviteiten georganiseerd om de nalatenschap van componist, pianist en improvisator Misha Mengelberg te vieren. Mengelberg zei ooit: "Music doesn't exist. At most it's an illusion". Dit jaar heeft ICP Orchestra-lid Michael Moore besloten een nieuw ensemble op te richten om Misha's muziek op hun eigen manier te spelen. Dit is een kans voor jonge muzikanten om de vreugde, chaos en muzikaliteit van deze bijzondere composities te ervaren. Er zullen een aantal zelden gespeelde, verborgen pareltjes uit Mengelbergs oeuvre te horen zijn.
Het ensemble bestaat uit de trombone en countertenor van David Whitwell, de baritonsaxofoon en doedelzak van Giuseppe Doronzo en de pianostijl van Tanine Kian, ondersteund door de spectaculaire bassist Ton Felices en de geweldige drummer Wouter Kühne.

The Dutch composer/pianist & improvisor Misha Mengelberg once said: 'Music doesn't exist. At most it's an illusion'.
Each year around this time there are festivities organised around town to celebrate his legacy. This year ICP Orchestra member Michael Moore has created a new ensemble to play Misha's music in their own way. This is a chance for younger musicians to experience the joy, chaos and musicality of these special compositions. The concert will feature some rarely played hidden gems of Mengelberg's oeuvre.
The ensemble will feature the trombone and counter tenor of David Whitwell, the baritone sax and bagpipes of Giuseppe Doronzo and the piano stylings of Tanine Kian, supported be the spectacular bassist Ton Felices and the amazing drummer Wouter Kühne.
